Abstract

In the last decade, elections have been held in the Northern Territory in 1974, 1977 and 1983. With the present volume, studies of all four have now been made available, all of them under the aegis of the North Australia Research Unit. Earlier studies are listed in the bibliography. As in 1980, The Department of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory made a generous donation towards the conduct of the research. The results were presented at a seminar held in Darwin a few months after the event. Party officials and academic analysts presented papers and the present volume includes important primary documents on party election organisation and campaigning. Special attention was paid to the mobile polling and other special provisions of the NT Electoral Act designed to assist voters with disabilities or disadvantages, provisions now added to the amended Commonwealth Electoral Act.
