Abstract

Title imposed. Caption on the reverse of the photograph: "This scene is on a small island a couple of miles up the river. Mr & Mrs Jackaman & their dog, Jones and myself. I'm also sending you a similar one but without Jones in it, it looks more compact and suits that circular mount admirably. We have just had lunch and feel comfortable." Captions reflect the attitudes of the author at the time they were written, and do not reflect the values of the archives. These photographs were taken during 1909-1910, when Owen was working for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company in Fiji at Labasa, and printed on postcards.
