Abstract

Over the last ten years awareness of natural hazards as a threat to Australian society has greatly increased, largely in response to a series of major disasters including the Tasmanian bushfires of 1967, Cyclone Althea in 1971, and the Brisbane floods and Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
