Abstract

A group portrait of assembled Baking Trade Employees' Federation representatives from different parts of Australia. The bakers are formally dressed for the occasion, with most wearing ties and one wearing a bow tie. Mr P. Hahn wears a round badge on his left lapel, while Mr Moon's badge looks as if it incorporates a boomerang. Two of the representatives have flower sprigs in their buttonholes and four have medallions on chains attached to their waistcoats. The photograph would have been taken in the photographer's studio. The painted backdrop depicts climbing flowers and a trellis on a facade with a pilaster and arched niche framed by drapery drops. Mr Ball and Mr Brownbill are seated in chairs with elaborately carved armrests. The representatives are (from left to right), back row: E.W. Lovell, H. Laurence, E.D. McLean, A. Sherwin, J.O.Moon, E.Hocking, D.A. McKenzie (Sydney); front row: E. Ball, Trustee (Adelaide), F. Hahn, Secretary (Adelaide); R. May (Melbourne); P. Hahn Vice-President(Sydney), A.E. Brownbill, Treasurer (Geelong). In this photograph the Treasurer is named Brownbill, but in a 1917 picture T013-32-22 his name is spelt Brownhill.
